    ESTHER MARY GAMBLE was indicted for feloniously stealing on the 11th of September 1809, 4 curtains, value 5 s., the property of John Ritchie.
    GUILTY , aged 13.
    First Middlesex jury, before Mr. Recorder.
    Fined one shilling , confined six months in the house of correction, and there kept to hard labour .

    ESTHER GAMBLE was indicted for feloniously stealing, on the 11th of June 1810, twenty laced veils, value 40 l. six laced handkerchiefs, value 12 l. a pair of laced sleeves, value 2 l. and three yards of lace, value 15 s. the property of Charles Harris , privately in his shop.
    GUILTY - DEATH , aged 13!
    The prisoner was recommended to his Majesty’s mercy by the Jury and the Prosecutor, on account of her confession and her youth .
    First Middlesex jury, before Mr. Justice Chambre.
    The sentence was commuted to transportation for LIFE at age 13.

    Another old identity has left as (taking with him his many weaknesses), in the person of James Rope, who for 59 years made his home in St. Marys, where he was born. For many years in the earlier part of his life he followed the work of butchering, being principally in the employment of Mr John Hackett and Mr John Morrison. In later years he worked as a laborer, and for a long time was employed by Mr John Gledden, as a bricklayer's laborer. As time went on and his strength began to fail ho filled the duties of ostler for the various proprietors of the Volunteer Hotel, at which place," it might be said, he made his home. The result of the inquest, printed in another column of this issue, gives all the particulars known, and of his death at the Nepean Cottage Hospital. The remains were taken to his nephew's residence (Mr Geo Adams); and on Sunday the funeral, which was a large and representative one, took place, the body being interred in the C of E graveyard, the Rev Palmer officiating. The funeral procession was headed by Mr Robert Beacroft, and amongst the followers were aldermen representing the municipal council and many business men of the town. . It is believed that James was the last of the direct Rope family in the district.
